
Abbie E. Smith-Ryan, Ph.D., CSCS*D, FNSCA, FACSM, FISSN
Dr. Smith-Ryan is a Professor in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill where she serves as the Associate Chair for Research, and Director of the Applied Physiology Lab.
Dr. Smith-Ryan is a leading expert in sports nutrition, focusing on research development, translation, and formulation. Her work aims to improve body composition, cardiovascular health, and metabolic function, with a special emphasis on women's health and performance. She leads innovative projects funded by the NIH and industry sponsors, contributing significantly to sports nutrition science. Dr. Smith-Ryan has published over 200 peer-reviewed papers and she has presented at numerous international and national conferences. Dr. Smith-Ryan has a passion for improving the health and quality of life of others through evidence-based research and she is dedicated to supporting women in science.
